Upsells let you show additional offers based on specific conditions—either tied to a product or to the entire order.
Instead of showing the same options to everyone, Upsells work by detecting what the customer is doing (what they added, selected, or when they’re checking out) and then showing a relevant offer at the right moment.
This can be:
- A product suggestion (Product Upsell), or
- An extra charge or contribution (Order Upsell, like tips or donations)
This helps increase order value in a more targeted way, because the offers only appear when they are relevant.
Best for:
- Showing offers only when certain conditions are met (not for all products)
- Promoting products based on brand, category, price, product, timing, or location
- Encouraging optional add-ons like tips or donations during checkout
Examples:
Product Upsell (condition-based):
- Brand – Show premium accessories when a customer selects a specific brand
Example: Apple → suggest AirPods or cases - Category – Recommend add-ons when a product belongs to a category
Example: “Cakes” → suggest candles or greeting cards - Price Range – Offer upgrades for higher-value items
Example: Products above $50 → suggest extended warranty - Date Range – Run seasonal promotions
Example: Valentine’s Day → suggest chocolates or add-ons - Product – Trigger specific offers for a selected product
Example: Bouquet A → show “Add a vase” or “Add chocolates” - Zip / Postal Code (requires eLocal app) – Show offers based on the customer’s location
Example: Show products available in the customer’s ZIP code or nearby store location
Order Upsell:
- Add a tip option (5%, 10%, 15%) during checkout
- Offer a donation add-on
Example: “Add $5 to support a cause” - Suggest a final add-on before order completion
When to use Upsells
Use Upsells when your offers should appear only under specific conditions or at a specific moment (like checkout).
- Additions → Always visible add-ons on a product
- Frequently Bought Together → Suggests commonly paired items
- Super Kits → Groups multiple bundles under one product
- Upsells → Shows offers only when conditions are met or at checkout
